NWW Inc. Tips for proper winter storage of your e-bike …
In addition to the regular storage maintenance you do with a regular bicycle (checking everything over to see if anything needs repair, refit or replacement, letting a bit of air out of the tires, giving the chain a good soaking with an appropriate lube), there are a few things you should do for the electric bikes.
Check all the wiring for damage, repairing and replacing as needed. Check all the connections and clean and straighten as needed. Check the motor for any signs of overheating or other problems. Check the connection from the motor to the drive line for alignment, contact, drag issues, or other problems.
Check each battery or cell for voltage and any signs of physical issues. Check the connections to ensure they are tight, signs of corrosion or hot connections. Address issues as appropriate. Traditionally, the battery pack and connections are the problem areas for e-assist bikes. Connections include the fuse and fuse holder, ammeter shunt, and other instrumentation connections.
Give the pack a full charge and check voltages again for imbalances. If imbalances remain, you can try balancing charging on the weak modules/cells. If that doesn't work, make a note to replace as necessary. If the pack as a whole, or even more than 30% of it is questionable, you may want to replace the pack (and look into a better charging / monitoring arrangement if life was not satisfactory).
Remove the battery pack from the bike to ensure there are no leakage currents that will drain the battery during the storage period. After fully charged, store the battery in a cool, dry place to help reduce self-discharge.
Once a month, give them a top-up charge. Do not leave them on a conventional trickle-charging battery maintainer. Charge your battery once a month during the winter months – do not overcharge. Maximum charging time should not exceed 8 hours. If you want to be more sure of time charge use a timer, that way it will shut off and avoid over charging.
Your battery is the most important component to your e-bike, taking good care of your battery will ensure longer life, and quicker road rides in the spring.

“ go green, ride an e-bike today”
Golf carts came off of the courses some years ago, and now they can be often found in back yards, on open farm fields, and even in people's garages. Some people use golf carts just to cruise around their backyards for fun. Others use them to get around from place to place on a farm, and, even some senior citizens use them sometimes to ride to the mailbox, or to take a quick spin around the neighborhood.
Unfortunately, just like any other vehicle, a golf cart will break down and need to be repaired from time to time. But, if you know how to fix the most common problems, you can have your golf cart up and running again in no time!
The most common repair problem with an electric-powered golf cart is probably the battery. This square case of acid has the responsibility of providing the power that makes the cart move. Therefore, its charge is used, depleted, and recharged again, over and over again. After awhile, the battery can fail to work properly, and need some repair.
If your golf cart won't start, check the battery terminals to make sure they are clean and connected securely. If you had the battery on a charger, use a tester to check the water in the battery. Add distilled water if the level is low. The plates inside the battery should be covered with water, but be careful not to overfill it. Check the outside case of the battery for any signs of acid leakage too. If you find any leaks, you can't repair the battery case; you'll need to replace the entire battery instead. A leaking battery in a golf cart can cause other repair problems if the acid leaks down onto other parts. To neutralize and clean up a battery acid spill, mix up a solution of baking soda and tap water. Use the solution with an old rag, and be careful not to get it inside the battery.
Another part of a golf cart that can take a lot of abuse and can cause a common problem is the "rubber". If an air-filled tire blows, you can often repair it with a rubber patching kit. If one or more tubeless tires wear out, you can easily replace it with a type of tire that fits your needs. There are tires that go on the highway and tires that are made for taking your golf cart off road in the dirt. There are smooth, knobby, trail, mud, and field tires too. Most golf cart tires are secured to the mount with lug nuts that can be easily removed with a wrench. If your cart has air-filled tires, you should check them periodically to make sure they are at their recommended air pressure levels. Add air to each tire if needed, but be careful not to overfill them. Having too much air in a tire can be as bad as having too little. Either condition can cause the rubber on the tires to wear unevenly and prematurely.
The battery and the tires can cause common problems with either electric or gas-powered golf carts. But, another common problem that only a gas-powered cart can have is with the spark plugs in the engine. Spark plugs have an important job because it's up to them to set fire to the gasoline that comes into the engine. Fouled plugs can misfire and cause an engine to cough, sputter, and otherwise run roughly. Spark plugs become fouled when they get carbon, oil, or other pollutants on them.

Do’s & Don’t on Proper Electric Scooter Lead Acid Battery Precautions
The Battery is the most important component of the electric scooter. Taking good care of the battery and the charger will make your electric scooter run a long time with minimal maintenance and service.
The brand new battery needs to be discharged and charged (by normal use) several times in order to achieve the best range.
It is recommend that you do charge the battery every time after use, do not wait to charge the battery when it runs low, as that will cause sulphate to grow too much which is not returnable by charging. This will reduce the life of battery.
Do not forget to turn off the power or lights when you are not driving your electric scooter. This may cause over discharge to the battery which is not repairable.
When you are charging the battery, unplug the battery at least 2 hours after the green light comes on. Do not leave charger charging for more than 24 hours.
Charging the battery for more than 24 hours will affect the life of battery and may damage the charger, and could potentially cause a safety issue.
If you do not drive your electric scooter for long time, it’s advisable that you charge your scooter at full charge at least once a month.
Do not use your specified electric charger to charge any other battery.
Do not leave charger in a wet in a hot place, outside in rain or in temperatures below freezing
Do always, plug the charger to the battery first, and then plug in the 110 volt plug.
Do not cover charger when charging.
Do not let any chemical liquid touch the charger and the battery; do not drop any metal pieces in to the charger and the battery.
Do not drop or hit the charger or the battery.
Do not charge the electric scooter in the rain.
The charger is delicate device. If you have to bring it with you, it is recommended that you do wrap it securely with foam.
When you are charging, if you smell smoke or it becomes too hot, please stop charging right away, and take it to your local dealer for inspection and repair.
When you are accelerating, turn the throttle slowly. Do not accelerate too fast as it may damage the motor and the battery.
The battery in your electric scooter may give off hydrogen gas so do not park near an open flame, sparks or heaters.
Do not try to drive the electric scooter up a big hill over 10 degrees. It is not designed for climbing. It will damage the bike. When you have to go up hill, it is recommended that you get off the electric scooter and push it.
Do not run down the hill with the power off and turn on the power right away when you reach flat road. It may cause the scooter to blow up.
It is recommended that you do not drive on a bumpy road. The electric scooter is not designed for unpaved road.
Do not rinse the body of the electric scooter with water. This will damage the electric wires and motor. Use mild detergent and wet soft cloth to clean your electric scooter.
Try to avoid driving in heavy rain. Do not try to drive the bike over a pound or a river.
When the power runs out the electric scooter will cut off the electricity automatically. Do not keep trying to accelerate the power. Pushing on the accelerator too much may damage the battery.
Your electric scooter should be parked inside during the cold winter season. Do not park the electric scooter in the wet place.
You can still drive your electric scooter in mild winter when there is no snow. The cold temperatures may affect the driving range.
Always plan your trips and know the distance to and from your destination. Do not guess your distance.
Do not modify your electric scooter, this will void the warranty.
There is no Guarantee warranted by the manufacturer when the customer fails to follow the instructions and guidelines in operating a electric scooter.
(NWW is committed to providing education on the proper maintenance and care for your e-scooter/e-bicycle/electric powered vehicle)
